Third grade is an exciting year of much growth and academic rigor! In third grade we utilize a variety of curricular resources that align to the common core standards. We have a comprehensive language arts curriculum called Journeys that focuses on all areas of reading development. We also utilize a Singapore Math based curricular resource, Math in Focus, that includes units on multiplication, division, fractions, and measurement to name a few! Our Social Studies curriculum engages students in units on Skokie and it’s history, early American history, and government, cultural contributions, and the history of Chicago. As part of our Social Studies learning we go to both the Skokie Heritage Museum and the Chicago History Museum or a Chicago Trolley Tour to further our knowledge in these areas. Our Science curriculum engages students in units focused on physical science, (forces), Earth science, (weather and climate), and life science, (animal traits and selection.) We also access Mystery Science for additional and supplemental engagement! Third grade is also the year that cursive writing instruction is introduced! Additionally, we have a comprehensive SEL program called Second Step which focuses on the development of the whole child, strategies for solving problems in the classroom and beyond. Third grade is the bridge from early elementary to upper elementary school!
We are so excited to be a part of your child’s third grade learning and growing experience!
